Council Finance The Parish Council is funded from the electorate by means of what is referred to as its Precept which is in simple terminology that part of the Council Tax which is collected on behalf of the Parish Council. This represents a small part of the overall Council Tax and it is set by the Parish Council each year usually at its meeting in December.
The calculation is done using a budgetary process which takes into account regular expenditure and any proposed new expenditures during the forthcoming financial year.
In December 2010 Longton Parish Council set its Precept for 2011/12 at £21100.00 which was the same as the previous year. This figure represents an average of approx £6.60 per band 'D' property and will be added to the Council Tax raised by other local authorities (including Police and Fire and Rescue) with responsibility for this area.
The money raised will ensure the continuance of the lengthsman scheme which allows enhanced local services to be maintained such as litter picking and the maintenance of public rights of way.
Provision has been made to continue with the Annual Newsletter and funds have been provisioned towards Christmas Trees in both villages for 2011.
In November 2011 Longton Parish Council set its Precept for 2012/13 at £21100.00 which was the same as the previous year. This figure represents an average of approx £6.60 per band 'D' property and will be added to the Council Tax raised by other local authorities (including Police and Fire and Rescue) with responsibility for this area. This is the third succesive year that the Precept has been held at this figure.
